I found a guage and it&#8217;s stamped for both .223/5.56 and has met my / customers&#8217; needs and am rolling with it, so far so good.<br />
I&#8217;m using a strip of Scotch tape on the back of the GO guage for NO-GO purposes.  Seems to work very well to me.  Any thoughts there are appreciated.</p>

<p>On the G0791, 0 is parallel to the work. That would be fine, except that the scale on the compound only goes from -45 to +45 degrees. To Thread, you have to be +60.5 degrees from parallel (-29.5 degrees from perpendicular).</p>

Try setting the compound to 60 degrees with the same set up using the scale. With the set up you have, you are moving the cutter more left to right instead of in.</p>

Here, you can easily see the stair stepping on the trailing edge. It would appear to me that the leading edge of the cutter matches the slope of the thread. However, the trailing edge of the cutter does not match the slope of the thread resulting in the stair stepping.</p>

<p>The combo mill/lathe is just a machine. The lathe portion is the same as the Grizzly 4003. The Mill is a lighter weight mill but it does the job.</p>

									<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The compound needs to be set at 29-1/2 degrees. Sounds odd but it gives a little relief as the threading bit goes in to cut the thread and makes better threads. </p>
<p>The cutting bit is still set with the V gauge normally (exactly perpendicular to the part you are threading). The first 16 weeks were machining 4 days a week, that helped me a great deal. I know that doesn’t answer your questions but I hope it helps you.<br />
