Well, even with the steam or boiling water tank rust bluing approaches you use a acid based accelerator (instead of hot caustic) which could possibly hurt you if you got it in your eyes or on your skin…but like Mark said…much safer than Hot Caustic bluing. I’ve been doing slow rust bluing for over 30 years and had about 10 years in with the hot caustic….hung it up beginning of the year and farm that out now. It was too much of a hassle to work with and keep the chemicals just right with intermittent use ( I was doing it quarterly).
