Customer has a Charles Daly 12 Ga. approximately ten years old. It’s had very little use, and what use it has seen has been with 2-3/4″ shells. It performed without any trouble. He recently tried some 3″ shells and gets an intermittent failure to feed. I’ve had it apart, cleaned and oiled. Nothing looks bent, worn, or out of order in any other fashion that I can see. When it fails to feed, if I thump the butt on the floor and re-engage the bolt it nearly always feeds the next shell.
What does the jam look like? Where are all the various parts and pieces….fired case, live round, bolt, cartridge carrier, etc. We need more info. Ken

The fired shells look like you’d want them to. Pretty near center, normal firing pin indentation. There doesn’t appear to be a jam. It’s just a failure to feed.
I did just find that the o ring at the head of the mag tube seems kind of mushy, as though maybe degraded by a solvent or something.
I’ve ordered a new one from Brownells. Guess I’ll see what that does.

OK, what does fail to feed mean? Fired case on ground next round still in magazine? On carrier but carrier down? Carrier raised part way? Carrier raised fully but shell to one side of chamber? etc. Let us know, Ken

So it’s not sliding onto the carrier? If you push the shell onto the carrier, does it feed smooth or is there a catch? Might check both the carrier alignment and its front edge as well as the magazine spring. I think on this one the carrier is the first stop, but that’s partly a guess. It’s kind of all about what is stopping the shell from moving onto the carrier.

Sounds as though the cartridge stop isn’t turning off or turning off fully allowing the shell to feed out of the magazine tube. Could also be a tight magazine throat. Ken
