Charter Arms AR7. Quite a pos. The fresh round out of the magazine will hit below the chamber mouth and get stuck. It works flawlessly if the magazine is pushed up. There is at least 1/16″ of slop there. The feed lips look correct. I can’t chamfer the chamber mouth as the whole thing is made out of aluminum.
Somehow I need to prop up the magazine in the mag well. I plan to refit the mag catch. Stretch it longer and let it engage a bit deeper.-TL
Have you tried different magazines? Sounds like the magazine catch is off or the magazine hole where the catch latches is off. Jeff

If I remember, some manufacturers had slightly different magazines that sat slightly higher or lower. If the magazine isn’t the one for the gun, might be an issue.
If you don’t replace the magazine, then welding up and reshaping the catch hole in the magazine is an option, or replacing or reworking the magazine catch. From your description, it really seems like that magazine sits too low in that gun. Jeff

It is a cheesy charter arms. The mag catch is the pivoting type with long arm. I am going to stretch that arm. -TL

Sounds like you have it figured out….make the mag catch longer and fit correctly with the parts/magazine you have on hand. Ken

Did that. Stretched the mag catch so that there was no more slop. The owner couldn’t believe how well the rifle now fed. To cool him down I had to tell him the bad news. This rifle had been fitted to this particular magazine. It might not work with any other magazines. The slop might have been there for a reason. They had just loused up the tolerance. He didn’t care as he truly had only one magazine. –TL
