I want to get an S&W M&P 4.25″ barrel for an M&P 9 Compact. Compact has a 3.25″ barrel. S&W say that their 4.25″ will fit into the compact but, will not guarantee anything.
So, that leaves me with wanting to know what all do I need to check before shooting beyond fitting well enough to assemble?
I’ll be threading this barrel and making/testing various type compensators.
Appreciate any tips on this. Regis
I would approach this as if I was fitting a barrel, all the usual concerns.
1) Does the hood fit the slide correctly and is there adequate lock up?
2) Does the gun have any loose breach and is the head space correct?
3) Do you have the 1 1/2 to 1 jump between the frame ramp and barrel ramp?
4) Ensure your locking block and barrel lug’s incline planes are mating correctly and function smoothly.
5) I would work the slide slowly and check to see if I have any wear on the inside of the slide caused by the new barrel, paying close attention to where the barrel goes through the slide.
These are my thought if I were the one doing this job. Bryan

Brian,
That’s a great checklist for me
Thank you

Answer
Along with locking up correctly, make sure it unlocks correctly as well. Ken
