I have a customer who found a Marble folding tang rear sight in pieces, packed in grease, and after I cleaned and assembled it, the spring won’t push all the way into locked up position. I tried to twist the spring back another hole to increase tension and there is too much pressure for me to hold in place while inserting the screw. If I could get it in the next hold it would snap up faster than the firing pin!!!!!!! I must be doing something wrong in the assembly of parts.
It pops up great and hits the front stop, but the rear stop doesn’t move up tight and allows about 1/8″ slop in front to rear movement of the sight. I soaked it in an oil bath overnight and it is better. I can’t find anything on the internet on how this sight is assembled.
I don’t take them apart as they are difficult to reassemble. The newer ones are much easier but they don’t pop up like they should and are not made like the older quality ones. From your description I would guess you have an older sight. Sorry I don’t have any good advice for you. Ken
