I have a customer’s Mossberg 935 in that has a feed issue. The first problem I fixed was it was assembled wrong so that the shell carrier would not lift high enough for the customer to put a shell in the magazine tube. But the problem now is failure to feed from magazine tube. and when it does feed it feeds usually two at a time. The only way to get a round to feed from magazine tube is to push the bolt release on the side. The firearm has all new shell latch and release button assembly from Mossberg as they said that would fix the firearm. It did not. Any ideas from anyone else? Thank you, Eric
First suggestion is to call Mossberg back with further details. They’ve always been good to gunsmiths for their products.
From your description, it sounds like the cartridge stop still has an issue. The bolt release, as I understand it (no expert on the specific gun), lets the bolt push the carrier down to feed the next round out of the magazine. But it should feed a single shell and then the stop should block the next one. The bolt comes back when the shell is fired, letting the carrier rise so the bolt can push the shell on the carrier into the chamber, pushing the carrier back down to load the next shell from the magazine.
Any of the autoloader shotgun courses from AGI should help diagnose and, if you have the AGI gunsmith series, check the shotguns DVDs for some help. Jeff
Answer
The secondary cartridge stop is failing and allowing multiple rounds to feed out of the magazine. Why? Could be several reasons, negative angle, insufficient engagement, etc. Why isn’t it being pressed out of the way to feed when fired? Action bar engaging incorrectly? Ken
