My wife recently purchased a used S&W model 41. It functioned just fine with the 6 and 7 inch barrels. I then noticed that the lower was dirty. I cleaned the lower in a sonic cleaner. I did not disassemble the lower. Now it will not function with either barrel. Click no bang. I checked the length of the firing pin against a new one and they are the same. Being a hobbyist, I’m thinking it has something to do with the Pawl. The gun effectively has excessive headspace. No dent on the rim. Does anyone have any idea what’s going on???
Could be several things. Barrel not installed correctly but since the gun goes “click” but no hit on the primer I would guess that the hammer is falling to the half cock/safe notch position. Check your sear. Check your hammer. Check your disconnector/trigger bar. Check the safety. Check the trigger. Those sonic cleaners break dirt etc. loose and the dirt/debris settles on the various parts and prevents them from moving the correct distances. Ken
