STEVENS 12 GA BULGE

Question

Customer brought in a Stevens 311A double 12 ga with noticeable (see attachment) bulge in both barrels at the front end of the chamber. Seems pretty likely to me that he fired 3 inch shell in 2 3/4 inch chambers although he won’t admit to that. The question- is it safe to fire 2-3/4 shells in this gun now?

Answer

I would NOT shoot it , red Tag it as unsafe , no way to tell when it is going to come apart. I also suspect the ribs are loose , give it a “ring” test . Bill

Answer

Absolutely unsafe to shoot. Time to look for a new barrel set. DC

Answer

I agree with the others, do not shoot.

Answer

As the others state there is no way to know when it may rupture. It could last thousands of rounds or it may fail with the first shot fired in it. Don’t shoot. Ken
