The customer says the locking block opens up when fired and it blows the empty case back at you. I tightened the hammer screw which was loose. Seems to keep the hammer against the locking block tighter. If the main spring is weak, will this let the hammer blow back and the locking block open? Gregg
Weak hammer spring could allow less tension on the hammer etc. I would increase the breech block tension so it would want to stay in place better. You may have to move the barrel rearward so the breech block contacts it better. Ken
Question Follow Up
After tightening everything up I test fired it. Its better but the breech block still moves. It’s hard to get the breech block closed up with a round in it sometimes. I will have to study it a little. Might be the right thing to replace the hammer spring regardless. Thanks Gregg

If you can get access to a copy of “Single Shot Rifles and Actions” by Frank de Haas, it has an excellent cut away illustration of this firearm.
The breech block is locked by the hammer in similar fashion to the rolling block, though not nearly the amount of engagement. It sounds like this is where the problem is. With the hammer all the way forward the block cannot be swung down under pressure. It may be worn so badly that the block is forcing hammer back, allowing the breech to open. Repair by welding up the worn area, and refitting, or replacing if you can find parts. TJ
