STEVENS SB101B BARREL REMOVAL

Question

Got one in with a broken locking block or barrel opening system….which means I can’t get the barrel off the gun. Because the barrel won’t come off, I can’t get the trigger group out. Because the barrel engages a groove in the hinge pin, I can’t remove the pin. Anyone have any idea how to get this thing apart short of a hacksaw?

Answer

Didn’t work on one before. I just imagine I’m in your shoes and weigh my options.

  1. Drill out the hinge pin (joint pin). Remove metal from both ends of the pin. Just deep enough to clear the frame. Replacement pins are still available for less than $4 apiece.
  2. Drill small access holes in the frame to get to the lock. If you can move the lock back, the gun will open. When done, cover the holes with plug screws, or just leave them open and engrave “oil” next to them.
  3. Go shoot some warm loads. The gun might just open by itself. (be careful!) -TL

Answer

That is a headscratcher. I like TL’s ideas. I would also contact the customer and make sure he is willing to pay what it is going to cost to get this going……as it isn’t a high end gun. Ken
