STEVENS SINGLE 20 GA. MISSING FIRING PIN

Question

After shuffling through the Numrich catalog, I believe I found roughly what model I’ve got, and ordered a firing pin, yet it is completely too big. It matches the schematic to a tee of a Model 94. The retaining screw was tightly rusted in place, but the pin was gone. Is it common on these old cheap shotguns to have to fit the supposed “factory replacement”? There are no markings on this gun at all, except Stevens Savage Arms Corporation, yada yada, yada. The replacement pin head diam. is .113″. The pin hole in the breech face is .095″ What to do at this point? No return spring, rebounding hammer design. Any Suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, DW

Answer

Chuck the new pin in a drill or drill press and file it down to fit. Jack R

Answer

If the replacement pin is mild steel case hardening, you may need to re-case it after you reduce its size. The machine may remove the hardened layer. -TL

Follow Up

All of the old “direct replacement” parts I’ve gotten from Numrich required fitting to work. There is no such thing as drop in parts. DC

Answer

Love ya Doug……there is no such thing as a drop in part. Fit the new part or fabricate one from scratch to fit as it should. Ken
