Had a customer bring one of these in and we are trying to take the frame apart. A silent video on You Tube shows punching out the slide stop but we can’t seem to get it out. In the video it looks real easy but this one isn’t coming. Anyone ever strip one of these down. Are they normally tight? I can’t find anything in my AGI videos that cover this gun.
I called Walther yesterday and they advised not to attempt to remove the slide lock. They recommend sending it to them if it needs removed. The guy I spoke with said that these can be extremely tight and you will usually damage the frame trying to remove them or put them back. He said it was a liability issue that I wouldn’t want. I can’t believe that this gun cannot be worked on by a gunsmith and has to be sent in. Any comments would be appreciated. Curious if Ken has worked on these guns. Thanks, Frank
Walther does have lifetime warranty if it’s a defect. 🙂
I have not disassembled one this far, and I’m curious why you need to remove it. There are probably all sorts of reasons, I’m just not sure I know one off the top of my head. My Walther disassembly usually goes as far as removing the slide, looking around the shop for two hours for some spring or pin that flew out and then cursing for another hour to put it back together. 🙂 Jeff

I have worked on one but didn’t have to take the slide stop out. Don’t recall how to do it off the top of my head. Sorry I am not much help on this one right now. Ken
Question Follow Up
On Walters Forum website they have posted a series of pictures on how to disassemble this gun. No instructions only pictures. The one showing removing the slide stops shows a couple of arrows in the picture. The first one has a arrow pointing to the release indicating that is to be raised or lifted up. The second arrow showing driving out the pin. In the comments about the pictures one guy says that you have to lift up on the slide stop a little while driving it out. He also says that these are pressed in at the factory and are extremely tight. Don’t know why the slide has to be raised a little. I think the reason the guy wants to take the gun apart is to put a finish on it.
Figured out why the slide stop has to be raised. The left side has a protrusion which extends into the frame and is activated when the mag is inserted. By raising the release it will clear the left side of the frame went it is driven out. Haven’t got it out yet. This baby is tight. I am trying to block it out as best as I can but not getting anywhere. Using an 8 oz. hammer. Maybe left the guy doing the coating do it, that way if it breaks it is not on me. Frank

I had one to look at the other day, just from a quick examination it appears the right side of the slide stop is staked or riveted onto the left slide stop assembly. Not saying it is but it appears that way just in looking at it. Ken
