A customer’s Winchester 42 pump is experiencing poor ejection. The rectangular profile ejector is solidly attached to the left receiver wall. The left extractor is in excellent condition and is negative. The right extractor is in excellent condition, as well, and is slightly positive with a sharp hook tip. The right extractor spring tension seems OK. In fact, a 3 inch dummy does not fall off the bolt face when the bolt (removed from the receiver) is shaken. The rim of the case contacts the ejector at its upper right corner. Sometimes a dummy will eject with normal force, but most of the time it acts as though it is falling off the bolt face, resulting in poor to no ejection. The customer indicates that this occurs with empties. I have not yet tried an empty case. The right extractor spring out looks OK, but I have not measured it as yet. Any known problems with this model in this area or suggestions (such as possibly a stronger right extractor spring)?
Make the right extractor prefect, and sharp……sharper than factory. Then make sure the left extractor will release the shell without a ton of rearward exertion. Ken
