I replaced firing pin springs on a Model 24 16 gauge. All was well until I test fired it and found that it fired whether on safe or off. Back to the shop, disassemble again, reassemble again. Before replacing the stock I checked the safety and all was well, good safety engagement. Couldn’t make it fire. Put the stock back on and it fires on safe! I can’t imagine the stock bolt is pulling the frame out of shape to the point of no safety engagement. The stock bolt doesn’t protrude through the post when I screw it in without the stock. I’m stumped.
Got it. The post at the rear of the frame that the stock bolt screws into wasn’t quite seated all the way into the frame. There’s about .030 shoulder on it that wasn’t seated. Fixed that, reassembled, and all’s well again. For now.
