I’ve been a member for over ten years and am very impressed with the videos, their content, and their quality. The master gunsmiths teaching instructions are clear and concise and when accompanied by video, there is no better training and education available. All this exceptional guidance can be found on the GCA website and in Guntech magazine. My thanks and appreciation to GCA, and AGI for allowing me a second income since retiring doing what I love.
I found the GCA shortly after completing my Gunsmithing program through Penn Foster. I was looking up Gunsmithing magazines online and GCA was the first one. I joined for a few months then had to cancel due to financial issues. I received my FFL in October 2020 and started my business 4.26 Armory. I rejoined the GCA in June. The GCA and the instructors have helped me through a few guns that have come in since I opened my doors. I look forward to being a GCA member for years to come and continue to learn more with every Gun Tech issue and every GCA login.
I have been around guns tinkering and shooting since I was 9 yrs old, I served 22 yrs in the Navy shot on the All-Navy Pistol & Rifle team, and did 4 tours of duty as a SEAL sniper in Viet Nam 1964 thru 1967 as part of the SOG. A couple of yrs ago I decided to become a gunsmith and signed up with GCA for the Master Gunsmith Course with tools, I talked to Gene and also got the Appraiser course. I immediately began the lessons and in approx. 10 months had completed 5 of the certified courses. During that time I began working for Shoot Point Blank a local range and gun store and did small jobs such as changing sights, mounting scopes, etc. Then I began doing more work for friends and customers and before I knew it I had a thriving business going, so much so that I have become buried in repairs and have quite a group of customers, and have had nothing but praise and not one single complaint. GCA did this for me and I am very grateful I have expressed my feelings directly to Gene in the past. The biggest problem I have now is I have become so busy doing the things I know how to do that I haven’t had the time to progress onward with my Master Gunsmith courses, hopefully, things will slow down because I have learned one very important lesson and that is that every firearm is unique to itself even same models and there is always a different problem that you have not encountered before and because of your instruction methods design, function, repair I have so far been very successful in my endeavors. Thanks to all you guy’s at GCA and Bob is sorely missed.
Thanks, Gene for the answer and keep up the good work. In my opinion, you and your staff have done a great job of overhauling the forum. I love the new intro to each segment and Ken, as always, is fantastic, as usual, with the DA/RA segments. He is blessed with talent and his patience and knowledge reflect those learning with him in the classroom and over the Gunsmith's shoulder.
AGI and the GCA are the most enjoyable and most rewarding aspects in my busy life. All of the AGI and GCA Instructors are extremely knowledgeable and I have always considered all of them Gunsmithing Super Heroes! All instructors are very willing to help no matter a person's level of gunsmithing knowledge, from a fresh new beginner to a person like myself who has been asking questions for 7 years, they have willingly and kindly taken me in under their arms and have treated me like a really good family member! What a FUN ride! Cheers all.
I feel like I have learned enough from the training vids, over the gunsmiths shoulder and the monthly meetings to jump into just about any repair! And I am about to find out, as I am finally ready to open up shop and give it a go, after a few years of learning and prep to get the business paperwork done! Jcgunsmithing is now open for business! I just hope I know how the run the QuickBooks program! lol
Since joining the AGI family, What I have found is people serious about the teachings and getting a student to a level of expertise in the gunsmithing business. Bob Dunlap shares his knowledge of gunsmithing with great passion, and I do love when he shares stories from things that happen in the shop, hunting trips and even a story or two of things that happened in the classroom. I love his sense of humor, and commitment to his craft. Ken Brooks training methods are beyond excellent, I have seen all of his in the classroom videos and there is so much great information shared here. I have my first Hands on Class coming up and am extremely excited to get to meet Ken in person and learn from one of the best. The GCA forums are very helpful, the GCA family is loaded with a knowledge base that is eager to assist any and all topics that come up in the GCA community. The Staff at AGI have been very helpful to assist in all related to the training, testing and follow up.
AGI is a great way to learn a new trade! Take your time or go as fast as you can. Support is amazing, weather it's a call to the office or through the Gunsmithing club blog page. I love that all the training material is in DVD format, you can always go back and watch over and over until it clicks. It took me 6 months for most of it then I opened my own shop and got busy, 2 years later I finished up a few courses to complete their master gunsmith program. I plan on staying involved with this wonderful group of people. Thanks AGI.
